Valentine's Day started with the Romans

There are many legends surrounding Valentine’s Day but some believe the celebration evolved from the ancient Roman fertility festival of Lupercalia.

One of those legends was based on the Roman Emperor Claudius II who believed single men made better soldiers so he forbade young men to marry.

A myth evolved around a priest, named Valentine, who defied the ban and performed secret marriages in the spirit of love. When the Emperor found out, Valentine was executed and martyred on 14th February.

Also, It was originally believed that our heart was our memory, where feelings of love were felt, and it wasn’t until the early 14th Century that French and Italian artists showed the feeling of love by the heart shape we associate with today.

In Roman mythology, Cupid is the son of Venus, the goddess of love and beauty; he is often shown drawing a bow and arrow to pierce hearts to cast the spell of love.

Now, Valentine’s Day celebrations are growing, regardless of your level of enthusiasm, with people not only declaring love for each other but for their pets too.
